White will work, if your ceiling is white and your trim is either white or natural darker wood. You would get a crisp look with this. If you choose cream (ecru), your ceiling needs to be painted something other than white, and your trim can't be white either. With ecru you will get a warmer feeling and it will bring more of the warmer brown tones out in your sage walls. More people prefer ecru curtains, over white. If you choose antique white, your ceiling and trim can't be white or your curtains will look dingy. It's a bit warmer than bright white, but will be lighter in your room vs. ecru, if natural lighting is an issue.
I like the look of either an antique white or cream for lace curtains with any colors or decor. It just creates a softer feeling and has more of an heirloom feel.





There are no hard and fast rules. You need to be happy with the final effect.
i think an off white cream white would look nice or a color like....manilla ( like the oaktag floders )
