I have a small kitchen with a small dining room. My cabinets are a cream color. The kitchen is now a lite blue?

I would like to repaint with some brighter colors but I am afraid that this will make my kitchen look even smaller. Any ideas what to paint that would brighten and not look smaller..I was thinking maybe two different colors? Interior designer I am not.I have a small kitchen with a small dining room. lighter color will open up the area - darker colors will close it up - but don't be afraid of color - you can do say the wall area under your cabinets above your counter tops a brighter color and do the other walls a warmer color. what colors do you like?
If your kitchen has chair rail molding on the walls then I think 2 colors would be a great idea. If you put the darker one on the bottom the lighter will make the room look brighter and the ceiling taller.
Try a shade slightly different than the blue you already have, that should make it look larger. Paint them a lighter blue. It would be very pretty.
