How do I mix a cream color trim with a dark walnut trim in the same house?

We are increasing the size of our dining area and kitchen. The current space has dark trim which will be changed to a cream color. The problem is the dining area opens into the living room which has dark walnut stain on the trim. The area is separated by a beam on the ceiling and post against the wall which is stained the dark walnut. How am I going to make the trim in the dining area/kitchen coexist with the dark in the living room? How do I mix a cream color trim with a dark walnut trim in the same house?
It doesn't need to lead into the living room, the beam and the post is the perfect margin. How do I mix a cream color trim with a dark walnut trim in the same house?
you don't need to worry about it as long as you have a nice mix of furniture... use some dark pieces and some cream pieces. ( maybe a dark table with cream chairs) The beam and the post should separate the areas naturally... if you still feel like it would really bother you... you could paint all of your doors the cream color, and leave the dark trim every where else. this would tie it all together too.

good luck... have fun!
